WORKSHOPS

For schools, universities and drama groups

Rates start at £100 for a 1-hour class or £150 for a 2-hour workshop

I draw upon my extensive experience working with inventive companies like Les Enfants Terribles and Propeller to create workshops that will develop new skills and open up new approaches to text or performance. Please contact me if you would like to discuss your requirements as I am happy to create bespoke workshops, but here are some examples of the sort of workshops I can provide:

Shakespeare page-to-stage workshops

A lot of people find Shakespeare intimidating.  I am a firm believer that if you approach Shakespeare in the correct way, he is in fact one of the most clear and generous writers there has ever been! His texts are littered with performance clues - we will look at how to find them, talk about verse-speaking - and most importantly, put this into practice so we can enjoy the words coming off the page in performance!

Immersive Theatre

Immersive, site-specific work is becoming more and more popular with companies like Les Enfants Terribles, Punchdrunk and Secret Cinema creating worlds for their audiences to explore and become a part of.  If this is something that you are working on in class, I can come in and discuss the balance between giving the audience agency and also telling a story, and we can run R&D on some of your ideas.

Character development

There are many ways that you can approach playing a new character.  My character development workshops introduce you to some of them, giving you new tools to use when playing "off-centre" or when trying to differentiate between roles when multi-roling.

Music in theatre workshops

These days, most theatre companies look to incorporate music into their productions, whether that is through actor-musicianship, live soundscapes, or simple choral singing.  I use some of Shakespeare's most musical plays, such as Twelfth Night and As You Like It, to demonstrate how easily we can elevate text by underscoring or incorporating live music.  I use the talents you bring to the table, no matter your perceived level of ability - everyone is musical! Please note, this is NOT a musical theatre workshop!
